Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important official said the incident left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
