One teenage boy was found dead just days following being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents found his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The investigation heard how his mother received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later concluded the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said items was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Health Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really mattered to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the relatives by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had gone into the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The hearing received testimony from school staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's family telephone and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they did not got that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior investigator told the hearing he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old child.

"Likely untruths were afterwards embellished and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and after his interview he was freed whilst inquiries proceeded."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is impossible to determine his intent."
