Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
